WHAT TO EXPECT?

Shock Wave Therapy is a safe, tolerable and effective treatment that is drug-free, surgery-free, totally non-invasive, requires no anesthesia and is performed in our office for 20 minutes and provides long-lasting results.

Also known as extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), the breakthrough erectile dysfunction treatment is believed to break down plaque in the penis, help repair blood vessels and stimulate the growth of new ones—heightening blood flow, sensation and sexual performance.

Typically six to twelve treatments are utilized for best results, twice a week.

DURING THE TREATMENT

The patient, after meeting with a medical expert, will be taken to a private treatment room where a technician will begin the ED therapy session and consultation. You will undress and you will be given a gel to apply to the penis. The treatment begins with the Shock Wave Therapy handpiece moving over the organ, a process that is that not uncomfortable and takes only 20 minutes to complete.

The entire penis is treated, including the hidden parts called the Crus. No anesthesia is needed, as the treatments are painless. Some patients might notice a tingling sensation, but this is not an uncomfortable feeling.

Most men at some point will become aroused during the therapy, which is normal, and indicates the therapy is working by increasing the blood flow. You will clean off the gel, get dressed and the treatment is complete until the next session. No downtime after the therapy and erections and sexual activity are encouraged.

HISTORY OF SHOCK WAVE THERAPY

This is a technique which has been used in Europe for more than a decade and is now available in the United States. It uses pulsed acoustical sound waves (radial shock waves) to start a process called neovascularization. These acoustic waves help form new blood vessels and increase blood flow to the penis. It has been used before for other conditions, including heart conditions, kidney stones, and orthopedic conditions.

BENEFITS OF SHOCK WAVE THERAPY

Shock Wave Therapy offers many advantages to potential patients. Unlike medications, Shock Wave Therapy doesn’t require people to take oral drugs or shots prior to sex. It’s also non-invasive, so there is no surgery involved and there are few side effects to the treatments. There is also no downtime with the treatments, and each session only takes 20 minutes. Best of all, patients will only need 10 treatments for lasting results.

Many men have vasculogenic ED, which is caused by a lack of blood flow to the sexual organ.  Shock Wave Therapy can help them as well as diabetic men whose condition contributes to their ED. It has also been used to treat those who are both responsive and unresponsive to ED medication.

RESULTS FROM CLINICAL TRIALS

Current studies of patients using SWT indicate the benefits can last up to 2 years or longer, and 2 out of 3 men with vascular or diabetic Erectile Dysfunction will have favorable results. So far, there have been more than 40 studies conducted on SWT, most of which have shown promising results. Up to 75% of men who were taking oral medication to treat Erectile Dysfunction were able to stop taking the medication after SWT and perform intercourse successfully. Around 72% of people who were unresponsive to oral Erectile Dysfunction medication were able to perform intercourse after ESWT along with oral drugs. Likewise, the treatments have been well-tolerated by patients overall. Many patients have found their erections had improved and they were able to have intercourse.
